On Thursday 21st March and Thursday 11th April, at 6.30 pm, Dr. Alessandro Boesi, Tibetologist and biologist, one of Italy’s foremost experts on Tibetan culture, will present two interesting lectures entitled, respectively, “Merging Body and Mind: Health and Illness in the Tibetan Art of Healing” and “High Mountains and Uncontaminated Land: Understanding Tibet and its inhabitants”.
Alessandro Boesi earned a research doctorate in Biological Anthropology in 2004 (Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris – Université de la Méditerranée de Marseille). His dissertation is entitled: “Le savoir botanique des Tibétains: conception, classification et exploitation des plantes sauvages.” Boesi has led scientific missions to the regions of Tibet to study the ethnobiology of local populations and Tibetan materia medica. He lived for 10 months in Eastern Tibet (Lithang, Sichuan, 1999-2000), for 6 months in Nepal (Dhorpatan, Baglung District, 1995-1998) and carried out research in Khumbu (1998), lower Mustang (2001) and Ladakh (1994-1995-2005). His most recent work is the translation from Tibetan to Italian of an antique illustrated manuscript on medicinal plants of Tibet (www.alessandroboesi.eu).
